so we start and the river walk but the day was beautiful but so harsh light and i have not finish my scrim that i'm working on which i will post about once it is done. so we headed over to the mill work districts played in the shadows which helped out a lot with our off camera lighting. which i got to play with one of my favorite toys my rogue grid for a little bit and tomorrow is going to be even more interesting. another amazing photo shoot with gretta tomorrow which should be a lot of fun and great images just like today there will be new changes and updates on my work soon. : )
It was a amazing photo shoot with tim today and two beautiful models becca and chol which we had a lot of fun enjoyed experimenting around the millwork district near the dubuque co-op which was great because it was so hot outside today. and there natural pop were amazing. time had his alien bee out and i was having fun with my awesome hotshot flash. still looking to get my two other strobe light out on location but hopefully it won't be too long until that happens.

Everything Photography in Dubuque, IA is now hosting a Strobist Club on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month at 7:00 PM at Everything Photography's downtown Dubuque location at 1135 Main St.
This club is FREE and 100% dedicated to learning more about off camera lighting equipment and techniques. Strobist clubs are created to accompany Strobist, the off-camera lighting blog written by David Hobby found here: Strobist club The assignment this week was 2.2 specular highlight which by the way i always want to know how to light a watch it was tricky but the edge of the diffused light so the fall off would give the watch the white highlight know as the specular highlight with a translent shine to the glass on the watch it was fun playing around with the light i'm used to studio lights and using a hot shoe flash for this was a lot of fun and learn some new thing about product shooting. and learning easier way to deal with reflective surfaces because i have done them before and it is a pain in the butt if you don't know what your doing. plus moving the flash zoom wide gives you less of a intense specular highlight then with the flash zoomed out at tele photo. Can't wait to see new members at the club meeting hope to see all you there soon. Sincerely Brett Carver At the shot tower getting ready to do model photo shoot The session went great got some great shots at the shot tower which as I'm looking at my screen is kind ironic great photo shoot at the shot tower anyway also got some great ones at the river edge plaza which is were I'm at now. :) can't wait to see who is my next model !!! Ok so far two events rain out hoping later today looks a lot better but so far I heard it going to be like this all day but still hoping for the best. I been so excited for today and hoping tomorrow does not get rain in the evening Mother Nature please be nice to is photographer who are suck inside keywording and getting tired of the predict following the rest of the week. This is assignment 2.1 for the strobist group that meet every 2nd and 4th week of every month to talk about off camera lighting especially speedlights. we meet at Everything photography the website is http://everyphotostore.com/index2.php?v=v1#/home/
they have such great stuff to sell even vagabonds which i am jealous i could never find one in the store and it's at a great price. the picture on the left is me playing around with the size next to the Mississippi River Walk which i'm hosting a event on thursday 8/21/2014 for model's and new model's to add to there portfolio for free. ; ) you should be there. First one is bare flash next is a thin piece of paper that i put close to the bulb, In the second row and the second picture the flash is zoomed out and is only covering the paper. then i decide to take out my 45" umbrella and shot with it being 3 feet from the subject which is the first one in the second row in the picture then i brought it less then 6 inches from the subject because of the distance not the position change the apparent light size to sub just changed. For instance take a look at the example on the right the little white circle with it light being where the arrows are will get more hard or harsh lighting vs the whit box which is bigger then the subject so say the light source is 3 feet you subject will get a soft look up to about 6 feet away and extra soft from 3 feet away to half the size which 1.5 feet away from there it will wrap beautifully. Have any question put them in the comments This was such a fun assignment and i suggest that everyone gives this club a chance. And You defiantly want to be at This epic photo shoot event.
